Artists normally aim at success, they like to become famous and want to play a prominent role on the top pages of mass media of the widest circulation. In this actual case our artist is getting all this, however, the context is pretty mediocre: Sergei Ruldogin is hitting the headlines of worldwide publications because of his supposed involvement into doubtful business practice currrently well known as Panama Papers.
It is not our job to complete the reports with any additional sensation – there are enough professional investigators to keep us posted – but we feel obliged to disclose the secret of the musical part of a character, who was gifted with high talent having all opportunities to become a world famous artist. Born in 1951 Ruldogin started at the age of five with piano lessons but soon turned to his favorite instrument – the cello. Educated and graduated in St. Petersburg he had best prospects for an excellent career as a soloist. In those days he became professor at the famous St. Petersburg Conservatory, where he even was granted responsibility as rector of that institution. Moreover he held engagements as principal cellist of the Kirov Opera House orchestra and became later guest conductor at the Mariinsky Theatre. All publications are citing the artistry of Sergei Ruldogin, yet it seems that noone is either really interested to shine a light on any proofs of this or is actually in the position to evaluate it in all fairness. CuGate Classics lets the music give an answer. The recordings in its present form were made in St. Petersburg in the Nineties of the last century. They reveal what kind of musical potential Ruldogin was gifted with, wandering perfectly between the worlds of Baroque and the late Romantic period. By all appearance somewhere along the line of this journee he made a different turn.
